In 2017, the neuroscience division team at Barnes Jewish Hospital began a transformation change engaging in performance improvement engagement to improve patient experience.
This work was done to create a patient-centric process to reduce readmissions and provide education to patients and staff.
Operational Excellence worked with the Emergency Department to identify models for improvement of patient throughput. This analysis included reviewing the tact time, space utilization, flow opportunities, and implementation of process changes.
In 2016, a multidisciplinary team at Barnes Jewish Hospital participated in a Rapid Improvement Event (RIE) to improve accuracy of lab specimen identification and armband scanning compliance across the hospital.
Operational Excellence created a pyramid to identify the lean tools that can be used to engage staff at all levels of the organization in performance improvement.
